SenFIT – The Fair for the Elderly

Oct. 31, 2017, by DRK

On Saturday, October 28th, the fourth SenFIT fair opened its gates in Tübingen to welcome people of all ages to acquaint themselves on topics around getting older.

Roughly 1.500 visitors had the opportunity to get in touch with approx. 40 exhibitors showing the latest developments in supporting elderlies in their everyday life. This includes both technical and non-technical solutions as well as offers like especially tuned journeys for people in an advanced age. Apart from that, fairgoers could attend a series of lectures covering various topics or just enjoy the well-chosen fringe events.

It’s obvious, that KRISTINA fits perfectly in this scenery – and that’s why EKUT and DRK took her there: The two consortium partners from Tübingen showcased the second prototype of KRISTINA to a wide audience and presented the already implemented functions.
Many people showed their interest in a system like KRISTINA but some of them admitted that they can’t imagine to use it, though. From an elderly’s perspective, the highest hurdle is the lacking affinity to technical devices and the internet. Hence, trusting a virtual character is another obstacle, some of the seniors confessed.

This attitude changes completely when talking to younger fairgoers: They like the idea, to have some care-related knowledge stored in an application like KRISTINA. Also a representative of an agency placing caretakers from Eastern Europe showed her interest in a system that supports those caretakers in their daily work.

Apart from showing KRISTINA prototype at the booth, there was a presentation about the project as a whole, the already implemented functions and achievements, as well as an outlook on the final demonstrator. In the afternoon, KRISTINA even made her way on the stage, when an open forum discussed about “Sensors for Seniors – Is Care 4.0 Gaining Ground?”.

All in all, KRISTINA attracted a lot of attention and many people showed their interest in the project. And maybe we all meet again on December 1st, when the second KRISTINA User-Day takes place at the LebensPhasenHaus in Tübingen.
